We get calls for “glambot” style opportunities pretty regularly, but this one was bit more involved than usual.
The Famous Group partnered with MTV to help elevate the premiere of RuPaul’s DragRace by bringing an innovative Mixed Reality Booth to the launch event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. In addition to traditional stills photo opportunities, the event featured an experience where fans could step into a virtual runway scene, and have fun posing for the moving camera. A few moments later, a link to a fully edited and post-processed video would hit their inbox. The finished videos were then played on the various screens throughout the event, to help show off the experience and get people excited.
We used the Bolt X set up in its pedestal configuration to give us a great range of motion while maintaining a compact footprint in the booth. We were able to make quick adjustments to the move to accommodate the wide variety of height differences from one fan to the next, keeping things running smoothly.
We collaborated with their tech team to put together a seamless presentation, utilizing an LED wall that dynamically changed with the camera’s position, as well as some added visual effects and graphics that were automatically inserted into the scene to interact with the talent.
Here’s a clip from one of the screens during the event:
The move was run over 200 times, and it was a big hit!
Here’s a feature that TFG put together on LinkedIn with some additional info.
